Brydon Carse is ruled out of the IPL 2025 due to an injury, and his replacement Mulder, who is an all-rounder, will join SRH for ₹75 Lakh
South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder on Thursday (March 6, 2025) replaced Brydon Carse in the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) after the English allrounder sustained a toe injury.
The 27-year-old Proteas all-rounder, who featured in Wednesday’s semifinal of the Champions Trophy against New Zealand, has joined the 2016 winners and last year’s finalist SRH for ₹75 lakh.
In preparation for the upcoming TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has named South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder as a replacement for Brydon Carse, who has been ruled out due to injury. The announcement was made on March 6, 2025, just ahead of the season commencing on March 22.
Brydon Carse, the English all-rounder, sustained a toe injury during England’s Champions Trophy campaign. Carse, who had a base price of INR 1 crore, aggravated a pre-existing issue with his left toe during the white-ball series in India. The injury was further exacerbated during England’s opening Champions Trophy match against Australia, where he was only able to bowl seven overs. Ultimately, this led to him being ruled out of the competition and subsequently the IPL 2025 season.
Wiaan Mulder, the 27-year-old South African all-rounder, will join SRH for INR 75 Lakh. Mulder recently participated in the Champions Trophy, where he played in the semi-final against New Zealand and was one of South Africa’s leading wicket-takers with six wickets in three matches. He has represented South Africa in 18 Tests, 25 ODIs, and 11 T20Is, accumulating 970 international runs and taking 60 wickets. While this will be his first stint in the IPL, Mulder has experience in other leagues such as the SA20, Mzansi Super League (MSL), and England’s Vitality Blast.
SRH’s squad includes prominent players such as Pat Cummins, Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Harshal Patel. Last season’s runners-up, SRH, will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign at home against Rajasthan Royals on March 23.
