Australia limited Bangladesh to 140-8 in Antigua, thanks to a hat-trick from Cummins, who claimed his eighth T20 World Cup.

Australia scored 100-2 in response to the second rain delay, 28 points ahead of the necessary DLS target.

Australia got off to a flying start when Mitchell Starc bowled opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim without allowing a run to be scored on the third delivery.

Bangladesh recovered thanks to runs in eight overs from Najmul Hossain Shanto (41 from 36 balls) and Litton Kumer Das (16), but Adam Zampa bowled both of them and caught Rishad Hossain off Glenn Maxwell, leaving them at 84-4.

Before Cummins took two wickets in a row at the end of the 18th over, Towhid Hridoy had guided Bangladesh to a solid score of 122-5.

At the beginning of the last over, Australia’s Test captain came back to dismiss Hridoy for 40, making it the second time an Australian had scored a hat-trick in a T20 World Cup after Brett Lee did so in 2007 against Bangladesh as well.

After Brett Lee, who accomplished the same record in a match against Bangladesh in 2007, Cummins is the second Australian player to reach the seven-figure mark at a T20 World Cup.

“I was clueless,” Cummins remarked. “I noticed that at the conclusion of the over, so I thought I’d make sure I remember, but I completely forgot about it. In juniors, I had a couple (hat-tricks), but never for Australia.

“It’s a good club to be a part of.”
